ICC Colour Profiling Service
I am pleased to be able to offer an inexpensive icc color profiling service for those who'd like to improve the colour accuracy of their photographic prints. While this service is intended primarily for users of PhotoPrint / Gutenprint, I will be pleased to create profiles for users of other programs and systems.
As well as regular A4 and Letter sized papers, I can handle more challenging formats, including 6x4 photo paper, and inkjet printable CDs and DVDs.
Please feel free to download one of the kits, from the Chart Downloads page, print out the enclosed TIFF images, and send the prints to me with the indicated payment.
"What kind of improvement can I expect?"
This depends on two things: (a) how accurate your printer is to begin with, and (b) how "well-behaved" it is. Inkjet printers driven with Gutenprint are, on the whole, pretty well-behaved (especially in "Uncorrected" mode) but not particularly accurate, so profiling them can yield a great improvement.
Below are two scans of a printed testcard image. The first was produced using an Epson R285 with third-party inks, using Gutenprint's built-in colour adjustmtents.
The second was printed using a colour profile generated specifically for this particular combination of printer, driver, paper and ink.
The improvement in colour rendition is immediately obvious - the greenish cast is gone, the colours are warmer and more natural, and the glass and sand are correctly rendered in cool grey and warm grey, respecitvely.
